History

Cryptologic was founded in Toronto, Canada in 1995, but eventually moved its headquarter to Ireland. The founders were two brothers named Andrew and Mark Rivkin, who created Cryptologic in their parent’s basement. Back then, they were focused on developing encryption solutions for financial transactions online. Their work with online transactions unsurprisingly led them into the field of online gambling, and they quickly decided to create their own casino where it was possible to gamble for real money. In 1996, InterCasino was launched – with both games and the surrounding software created in-house by the Rivking brothers. Other actors in the field took notice and asked Cryptologic to deliver games to their casinos as well.

In 2012, Cryptologic was acquired by the Amay Group (now The Stars Group). The gambling sites InterCasino and InterPoker used to be owned by Cryptologic, but Amaya sold them off shortly after the acquisition.

Eventually, Amaya sold Cryptologic’s remaining software operations to NYX. NYX is now a part of SG Digital – a company based in Toronto. In a way, the history of Cryptologic has come full circle.
